'Jerseylicious' Star Lorenzo Gangala Dies Months After Surviving Motorcycle Crash
Lorenzo Rocco Gangala, a Montclair resident who appeared on the former reality show "Jerseylicious" died on Thursday, Jan. 16 at Mountainside Medical Center surrounded by family, according to his obituary on the Par-Troy Funeral Home website. He was 38 years old. In August 2024, Lorenzo survived a serious motorcycle accident in East Orange, an experience he called life-changing. Hospital ERs in Bergen, Montclair Closed By Nationwide Ransomware Attack
The latest in a continuing series of nationwide ransomware attacks closed two hospital emergency rooms in New Jersey. Authorities haven't disclosed what's been demanded by the cybercriminals who forced ambulances to divert to other hospitals from Pascack Valey Medical Center in Westwood and Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair beginning on Thanksgiving evening. Lab work, radiology, scheduling, billing -- basically anything involving computer software -- apparently were affected. "No one can use the computers in the buildings," a source said. Police ID Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Montclair
Police in Montclair have identified the pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle over the weekend. Vivian Folkenflik, 83, of the Township, was struck at Bellevue Avenue and Park Street around 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Montclair Police Chief Todd Conforti said. Folkenflik was transported to Mountainside Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1 p.m. The driver remained at the scene. 'Rutgers Royalty': Basketball Legend Phil Sellers Dies At 69
Phil "The Thrill" Sellers, who rewrote the Rutgers Scarlet Knight record book and led the school to its only Final Four appearance, died on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the age of 69, the school announced. Sellers is the all-time leader in points scored and rebounds at the school and captained the famous Final Four team that went undefeated in the regular season and was ranked fourth in the country. Hudson County Jail Nurse Dies Of Coronavirus
Daisy Doronilla, a Hudson County Jail nurse from Nutley, has died of coronavirus. Doronilla was diagnosed with strep throat on March 16 by her private doctor -- on her second day out of work, her daughter said in a Facebook post. Eight days later, she was on a ventilator at Mountainside Medical Center, NJ.com reports. The jail went into lockdown on March 20 and, three days later, began releasing low-risk inmates to stop the coronavirus spread.
