Search Turns Up Ghost Gun, Cocaine, $85K At Union County Home: Police
A 53-year-old Union man was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 18 and hit with numerous charges after a search of his home turned up a ghost gun, drugs and $85,000 in cash, authorities said.
Detectives from the Linden Police Department Narcotics Bureau and the Union County Prosecutors Office Narcotics Task Force searched the home of Luiz Melendez, turning up the ghost gun, an illegal high-capacity magazine, along with cocaine, MDMA and $85,000, the Linden Police Department said.

Longtime Linden Police Officer Matthew Carew Dies: 'A Class Act'
Matthew Carew, who served in the Linden Police Department for 40 years, died on Friday, Oct. 6 at the age of 70, the Linden Police Department announced.
A Rahway resident, Carew started as a police officer the Keansburg Police Department before transferring to Linden, according to his obituary. He retired in 2014.
Carew is survived by his wife, Rita, his children, Andrew and Christopher, his grandchildren, Mia, Ayva, Chloe and Riley and other relatives.
Condolences to the family poured in on LPD's Facebook post, where one person remembered Carew as "a class act."

Getaway Driver, Armed Robber Captured In Linden With Third At Large: Police
One of two armed robbers and their getaway driver have been captured in Linden, with the second robber at large, authorities announced Wednesday, May 31.
On Thursday, May 17, police responded to a report of a robbery at gunpoint by two men armed with ski masks on the 1400 block of S. Wood Ave, Captain Christopher Guenther of the Linden Police Department said. The suspects fled the scene in a black Nissan driven by a woman, Guenther said.

A Linden dad called relatives to say he'd shot his wife and two teen children, before turning the gun on himself over the weekend, authorities said.
