Dad Killed Biking To 2nd Job In Jersey City: Family
Guillermo Acevedo was biking to his second job in Jersey City when he was fatally struck by a vehicle on Saturday, Nov. 4, those who knew him said.
At 4 p.m., Jersey City police responded to Marin Boulevard and 16th Street where a 2018 Hyundai Elantra collided with Acevedo, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said.
The driver attempted to turn left at the intersection when the crash occurred, Wallace-Scalfione said. The driver remained on the scene and called 911, she said.

A store manager at Macy's was slashed in the groin after trying to prevent a shoplifter from leaving in Jersey City on Wednesday, Nov. 1, authorities said.
At 12:20 p.m., the manager observed Alejandro Rodriguez, 26, attempting to flee, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. Rodriguez was apprehended by loss prevention and the manager, Wallace-Scalfione said.

One Dead, Another Injured From Jump In Jersey City Fire
One person was killed in a fire in Jersey City early Monday morning, July 10, authorities said.
A man who was pulled from the 269 269 Stegman St., blaze that broke out around 6:50 a.m. died at the hospital, while one other person who jumped from the second floor was injured, according to Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and fire, Wallace-Scalfione said.
Five other people self-evacuated the building, Wallace-Scalfione said.
