A Jersey City woman was sentenced Thursday to more than 11 years in a federal penitentiary for her role in smuggling deadly fentanyl into a New Jersey state prison. Jasmir Humphrey, 31, and other associates smuggled the drug and other contraband into Bayside State Prison in Leesburg for Noel “Kuko” Salgado, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. Salgado was the leader of the “Loyal Hoody Gang,” a subset of the Neighborhood Rolling 20 Bloods, a nationwide street gang, the U.S. attorney said. Authorities: Armed Civilian Report Unfounded, Hudson County Courthouse Lockdown Lifted
UPDATE: Authorities lifted a lockdown at the Hudson County courthouse in Jersey City Thursday afternoon, saying that a report that a civilian was spotted with a gun was unfounded. The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that K-9 and SWAT units responded. The lockdown at the Newark Avenue complex lasted nearly two hours after the 2:15 p.m. report.

A 17-year-old boy from Newark was charged in two robberies occurring Sunday in Newark and East Newark, law enforcement in both communities said. A Jersey City man was charged with kidnapping, raping and killing a local nanny. Jorge Rios, 33, was arrested after the body of 45-year-old nanny Caroline Cano was pulled from a lake in Lincoln Park, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office announced Sunday morning.
