UPDATE: Bystanders helped free a 30-year-old driver after she fell asleep and her SUV slammed into a utility pole in Glen Rock, authorities said. The 2011 Kia Sportage split the pole into pieces, then rolled onto the driveway of a Lincoln Avenue residence between Greenway Road and Isabella Place shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Sedan Smashes Into Glen Rock Storefront
A driver was OK after her sedan barreled into a Glen Rock storefront. The 2010 Subaru Legacy plowed into the downtown Heidt Agency insurance office on Rock Road just off Glen Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, March 11. The 61-year-old Glen Rock driver "mistook the accelerator for the brake," Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Dump Truck With Trailer Barrels Down Embankment Into Hawthorne Home
A dump truck and equipment trailer owned by a Wayne landscaping company barreled down an embankment and crashed into a home in Hawthorne on Monday. The single-axle crew cab truck, owned by Canete Landscaping, was headed down Hillcrest Avenue around 5 p.m. when the driver said the brakes failed, responders said. Pets Rescued From Hawthorne House Fire, Flames Climb From Basement To Roof
Two pets were rescued from a Friday night Hawthorne house fire that raced from the basement to the attic. No injuries were reported in the two-alarm blaze, which responders said broke out in a home at the corner of Maitland Avenue and May Street at 10 p.m. and quickly made its way to the third floor and into the attic, Hawthorne Fire Chief Joseph Speranza said.
