'Scary:' NJ Costco Shopper Shoots Themself Accidentally, Police Say
Police are investigating after a shopper accidentally shot themselves inside an Ocean County wholesale store over the weekend, they said. Brick Township police officers responded to the Costco warehouse on Route 70 at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, local police said. The owner of the gun is expected to survive their injuries. More than 61,000 gun cases sold nationwide are being recalled due to a malfunction that can allow unauthorized people to access dangerous weapons, and already led to the death of a child. Illinois-based Fortress Safe announced this week that the biometric gun safes were being recalled due to a "serious safety hazard and risk of death" caused by a programming feature that made the safes more accessible. An 18-year-old man playing with a gun accidentally shot his friend in South Jersey, authorities said. Jah-son Jones, of Pemberton, was at 19-year-old Nasiah Carson's home on South Coles Avenue in Maple Shade, when the two were playing with a handgun that they thought was unloaded, and Jones pointed it at Carson squeezed the trigger around 3:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Target Shooter, 73, Accidentally Wounds Himself At Passaic County Gun Range
A 73-year-old man accidentally clipped the tip of his index finger at a Passaic County gun range over the weekend, authorities said. Officers who responded to Gun For Hire at the Woodland Park Range on McBride Avenue around noon Sunday tended to the victim before EMS arrived, Police Chief John Uzzalino said. He was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment. As often happens, scanner listeners mistakenly shared word of the incident as a shooting at McBride and Lackawanna avenues instead of what it was.The chief thanked everyone for their concern.

Mom Of 4-Year-Old Pittsburgh Boy Who Accidentally Shot Himself Dead 'Lost For Words'
A 4-year-old boy from Pittsburgh has died after shooting himself in the face, according to police. The boy was identified by family members to CBS2 as Ajani Lane. His mom, Nay Lane, mourned his loss on Facebook. Police were called to a home in the 500 block of North Negley in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood around 8 a.m., according to a statement by the police. The boy was transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he later died, police said. There was a caregiver present in the home at the time of the shooting, according to police. An investigation is ongoing.

Authorities: Off-Duty North Jersey Officer Shot, Killed By Juvenile In Deer Hunting Accident
A 38-year-old off-duty police officer was shot and killed Tuesday when a juvenile accidentally fired off a weapon while the pair were hunting in Sussex County, Daily Voice has learned. Hamburg police officer Jason Franco, of Montague, was deer hunting near Havens and Lott roads in Wantage around 12:30 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to local and state police. 2-Year-Old Child Picks Up Loaded Handgun Left At Warren County Playground
A 2-year-old found and picked up a loaded handgun left at a Phillipsburg playground over the weekend, authorities said. The gun was found Sunday afternoon at Firth playground near the intersection of Bates Street and Marshall Street. “I couldn’t imagine it,” Phillipsburg police Lt. John Maczko told NJ.com. “Thankfully, nothing happened.” The owner of the handgun has not been identified, and police are unsure whether or not it had legal registration. The department plans to follow up with an investigation of surveillance footage from homes in the area.

Father Of 4-Year-Old South Jersey Boy Killed By Self-Inflicted Gunshot Charged
Authorities have jailed the father of a 4-year-old South Jersey boy who was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot earlier this month. Andrew Mack, a 31-year-old active duty member of the U.S. Navy, went to sleep with the loaded 9mm handgun next to him the night of Feb. 7, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said Wednesday.
