Dad Struck, Killed Along Garden State Parkway 'Had A Heart To Help Those He Could'
The community is rallying to support the family of a 55-year-old man who was struck and killed after his car broke down along the Garden State Parkway. Robert Piel Sr. of Bayonne "had a heart to help those he could," according to a GoFundMe set up to pay funeral costs. Piel was standing in the left lane of the parkway after his Ford stopped in the center lane on Oct. 14 in Sayreville, according to New Jersey State Police. Motorist, 55, Struck, Killed After Car Breaks Down On Garden State Parkway
A 55-year-old man from Bayonne was struck and killed after he got out of his car which had broken down along the Garden State Parkway in Middlesex County, authorities said. Robert Piel was standing in the left lane of the parkway after his Ford stopped in the center lane around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at mile marker 123.2 in Sayreville, New Jersey State Police Detective Jeffrey Lebron said. A trio of teenagers bailed out of a stolen car on the Garden State Parkway during an overnight chase and were quickly captured by police from Mahwah and Paramus. Mahwah Police Officer Brian Doolittle was on pro-active patrol in the township’s Scotch Hills area when he spotted the 2023 Honda Civic moving slowly along McIntosh Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, Capt. 16-Year-Old Newark Teen Fatally Struck On Garden State Parkway: State Police
A 16-year-old teenage boy from Newark was fatally struck on the Garden State Parkway in Irvington on Monday, Oct. 9, state police said. At 9:24 p.m., state troopers responded to the Garden State Parkway North 143C ramp, Detective Jeffrey Lebron said. An investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling northbound when the 16-year-old entered the roadway and was struck, suffering fatal injuries, Lebron said. The accident remains under investigation, Lebron said.

Family Of Driver, 24, Killed In GSP Crash Gets $2.15M Settlement From Dump Truck Owner
The estate of a 24-year-old man who was killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway has reportedly settled a lawsuit against his former employer for $2.15 million. Brandon Lawson, of Manchester Township, was driving a dump truck owned by Farmingdale-based Galderese Trucking when its brakes failed on the southbound Parkway in Egg Harbor Township in the middle of the afternoon on Jan. 6, 2021, authorities said.
