Ex-Con In Edgewater Stop Had Gun, High-Capacity Mags, Drugs, Cash Stashed: Police
An ex-con from New York City had a handgun, two high-capacity magazines, drugs and cash stashed in a secret compartment when an Edgewater police officer pulled his vehicle over, authorities said.
Officer Michael Colon stopped a Jeep Cherokee driven by Wilson Ortiz of the Chelsea section of Manhattan for several violations near police headquarters on River Road shortly before 2 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20.
While talking with him, Colon became suspicious and requested a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, Detective Lt. Steven Tibus said.

An argumentative driver from Cliffside Park ran over an Edgewater police officer’s foot while fleeing, only to be eventually arrested at his home, authorities said.
Emmanuel Nunez, 33, demanded to see the radar unit, then refused to hand over his license, registration and insurance card to officers who stopped him for speeding in his 2023 Nissan 350z on River Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, Chief Donald Martin said.
Nunez “remained defiant and argumentative and was ultimately asked to exit his vehicle,” the chief said.

A popular Bergen County pizzeria is set to close after 25 years in business.
Brooklyn's Pizzeria in Edgewater announced the closure on its website.
The shop's flagship store opened in the early 1900s in Harlem, NY — its owner, Patsy Lancieri, among the first New Yorkers to use a coal-burning brick oven in the 1990s, the website reads.
Years later, Lancieri's nephew, Pat Grimaldi, opened his pizzeria in Brooklyn. Later came the Hackensack location in 1993, where owner John Grimaldi met his wife, Julie.
