A man was robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint in Newark on the evening of Friday, Aug. 9, authorities said. At 10 p.m., a man exited a business on the 200 block of Lyons Avenue when he was surrounded by a group of men who had been inside, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The men demanded the victim change the Face ID on his cell phone, with one lifting his shirt and displaying a handgun tucked into his waistband, Fragé said. A man shot by police in Newark on Monday evening, Aug. 12 is in critical but stable condition, authorities said. At 8:34 p.m., two Newark police officers spotted a stolen SUV in the area of Clinton Place near Hawthorne Avenue, the state Attorney General's Office said. A 33-year-old woman died and several others were injured in a crash between a vehicle and NJ Transit bus early Tuesday in Newark, authorities said. The Bloomfield-bound bus was struck head-on by a westbound 2007 Chevy Impala while going east on Hawthorne Avenue near Clinton Place around 5:30 a.m., NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith said. Paige N. Victim In Tuesday's Fatal Newark Shooting Is South Orange Man, 22
The victim in the second deadly shooting to occur in Newark within 24 hours earlier this week has been identified as a 22-year-old South Orange man. Sabor A. Townes was gunned down at 80 Clinton Place Tuesday night, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said, There did not appear to be a connection with the shooting the previous night that left 49-year-old Hassan Webb dead. 3 Shot, One Killed, In Second Straight Night Of Deadly Violence In Newark
One person is dead and two others injured in a shooting in Newark Tuesday night, police said. The victims, identified only as males, were shot on Clinton Place. One of the wounded was reportedly in critical condition, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said. Ambrose referred additional inquiries to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The shooting comes on the heels of a pair of shootings Monday night that left one person dead and wounded four others . Those shootings occurred on South 8th Street and were also under investigation by the prosecutor's office.
