Sibling Thievery: Brothers Captured Same Day, Charged With Separate Crimes, Haledon Police Say
A thief tried to outrun Haledon police while pushing a shopping cart packed with nearly $2,800 worth of hot merchandise on the very same day that they arrested his older brother for stealing a car, authorities said.
Borough resident Ahmad Elfki, 20, was still in the Walgreens on Belmont Avenue when Officer Kris Duci, Corporal April Latona and Detective Lt. Tim Lindberg arrived, they said.

Prostitution Bust: Haledon Detectives Go Undercover, Accuse Mom Of Turning Tricks
Police in Haledon went undercover to bust an alleged prostitute.
Responding to a tip from the 400 block of Belmont Avenue, Haledon Detective Sgt. Timothy Lindberg and Detective Jeffrey Welsh identified Christine Mcalister, a 48-year-old borough resident, as their suspect, Capt. George Guzman, Jr. said.
Mcalister, who lists her occupation online as self-employed, was arrested after soliciting an undercover officer, the captain said.
She was charged with promoting prostitution and maintaining a nuisance before being released pending a Municipal Court appearance, he said.

A Paterson man with a history of drug-related arrests was seized by Haledon police who reported finding 120 heroin folds, 16 bags of crack and 50 Ecstasy pills in his car after they stopped him for speeding.

Haledon Police Stop Turns Up Loaded Gun, Drugs, $2,393 In Cash
A passenger was found toting a loaded handgun during a traffic stop, Haledon police said.
Officer Jeffrey Welsh stopped a Nissan Altima whose driver failed to signal a turn on Belmont Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday, Capt. George Guzman said.
The driver also failed to produce proof of registration or insurance, he said.
