Dropped Load In Crash Causes Closures In Bayonne: OEM
A car crash with a dropped load caused significant traffic delays in Bayonne on the morning of Monday, Aug. 5. The crash occurred on Route 440 South near the 63rd Street exit, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said. The crash caused heavy damage to the roadway, with debris strewn throughout. The Bayonne OEM said they were on scene doing cleanup, necessitating the closure of Route 440 South and making only one lane available on Route 440 North near Avenue C. It is unknown if there were any injuries.

This story has been updated One firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a four alarm fire that spread to two homes in Bayonne on Thursday, Sept. 21, authorities said. At 9:49 a.m, firefighters were on scene of a heavy fire in the rear of both 142 and 144 West 5th St., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. The fire was declared under control at 10:57 a.m., Weaver said. There were no injuries to any residents, while a firefighter was transported to a hospital for treatment of a minor injury, Weaver said. Eight residents were displaced and one was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a massive fire over the weekend in Bayonne, authorities said. Firefighters responding to the house at 95 Hobart Ave. found smoke coming from the three-story, two-family house around 4:25 p.m., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. Six people were displaced and one person suffered minor injuries in a Bayonne house fire sparked by a propane tank Saturday, authorities said. Responders rushed to rescue a person who jumped from the Bayonne Bridge just before 2 p.m. Saturday. More than a dozen people were displaced in a Bayonne fire Friday, authorities said. City firefighters responded to 9 New St., for a basement blaze just before 8:50 a.m., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weave said.
