Firefighters were on scene of a structure fire in Bayonne on the morning of Tuesday morning, July 9, the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said. The fire is at West 44th Street and Avenue B, the Bayonne OEM said. Video provided by the OEM shows smoke billowing from the window. People are asked to avoid the area, the OEM said. A fundraiser has been set up to assist the family of Saniya Felton, a 6-year-old who was killed in a fire in Bayonne on Monday, July 1. Sadness spread throughout Bayonne following the death of a 6-year-old girl in a fire Sunday, June 30. Marty Reed, a beloved institution in youth sports in Bayonne, died on Saturday, June 15, at the age of 76, according to his obituary on the Sweeney Funeral Home website. Reed was involved in youth sports for more than 60 years and was a "walking encyclopedia" who remembered every player from Little League and PAL basketball, going back to the 60s, his obituary reads. UPDATE: A ferocious late-night fire that consumed one Bayonne home and spread to three others displaced nearly two dozen people, authorities confirmed. No serious injuries were reported in the blaze, which ignited in a West 11th Street home off Avenue C shortly before 11 p.m. Friday, June 7, and quickly spread.
