At 9 p.m., police responded to Avon Avenue and South 10th Street and found an unconscious and unresponsive infant, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. The infant was pronounced dead, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

One Killed, Two Wounded In Newark Triple Shooting One person was killed and two others were injured in a triple shooting in Newark on the afternoon of Friday, April 19, authorities said. The shooting occurred at 5 p.m. on Avon Avenue, Thomas Fennelly, a spokesman for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.  Two of the victims were transported to a nearby hospital, while one declined medical attention, Fennelly said.
