Two males wearing ski masks entered Massa's Tavern, 563 Ave. A, sometime before 11 p.m. One of them pulled a gun and both demanded the bartender hand over cash. Two patrons were ordered to hand over their possessions and lie on the floor. The robbers then locked the front door and forced all three into the basement, witnesses told police.
Two of the people forced into the basement were hit in the head.
As they were in the basement, a woman walking her dog arrived at the tavern to visit her friend, who was tending bar. She knocked when she discovered the door was locked, police said.
The robbers answered the door, pulled the woman into the tavern, forced her to the floor and took her pocketbook. Both robbers then fled.
One of the victims called police while the robbers answered the door, police also said.
Hundreds of dollars were taken from the bar and the victims, who range in age from 23 to 64. No arrests have been made but a wallet and about $25 in quarters were retrieved from near the bar.
