35 Bags Of Heroin, Two Handguns Seized From Trio In Secaucus: Police

Three people were were arrested outside a hotel in Secaucus on Saturday, July 16 and charged with possessing two handguns and a large quantity of drugs, including 35 bags of heroin, authorities said.

At 10:20 a.m., the Secaucus Police Anti-Crime Unit was patrolling the area near Extended Stay Hotel when they observed a drug deal, Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Police then stopped one of the cars involved in the drug deal and saw a digital scale used to weigh narcotics, Miller said.

The driver of the vehicle, Ruben Rodriguez, a 36-year-old resident of Jersey City, had over $2,300 in his pants pocket, Miller said. Brix, Secaucus Police's K-9, was called to the scene and positively sniffed out narcotics, Miller said.

Police also two recovered handguns and ammunition. Police arrested Rodriguez and Diane Rodrigues, a 31-year-old Elizabeth resident, and a passenger in the vehicle.

A search of their hotel room was conducted and police discovered over 35 bags of suspected heroin along with methamphetamine and cocaine, Miller said. Danny Rivera, 43-year-old Jersey City resident, was also arrested, Miller said.

Rodriguez and Rodrigues were charged numerous counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of a handgun, while Rivera was hit with possession charges, Miller said. The trio were sent to Hudson County Jail, Miller said.
