Driver Seriously Injured In Route 17 Crash
A driver sustained serious head and neck injuries Friday afternoon when his Mini Cooper veered off the highway and slammed into a retaining wall on Route 17. The driver was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood following the crash shortly after 1 p.m. at the corner of Summit Avenue and the southbound highway. Waldwick police and firefighters also responded. The cause wasn't immediately determined. Boyd A. Loving took the photo and produced this story.

Glen Rock PD Nabs Paterson Hit-Run Driver Who Injured Hillsdale Motorist
Glen Rock police tracked down an unlicensed hit-and-run driver from Paterson who they said injured a 20-year-old Hillsdale motorist. The victim was stopped in traffic on Grove Street near Prospect Street last week when a vehicle driven by Samone T. Wade, 30, rear-ended him, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said. Wade took off before responding officers arrived, but by then the victim had collected information about her vehicle, Ackermann said. Driver Hospitalized In Fair Lawn Crash
A driver was hospitalized after her sedan slammed into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon in Fair Lawn. A passenger escaped injury after the Infiniti slammed into the pole in the 1600 block of Kipp Street. The Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps took the driver to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. A tow truck removed the sedan.

Victim Hospitalized, Man Charged In Ridgewood Stabbing
A victim was hospitalized and a man was jailed for stabbing and slashing him with a broken bottle during a fight in Ridgewood, authorities said Monday. The 27-year-old village victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries to his head, arm and abdomen after police responded to a report of a fight at the corner of North Maple Avenue and 1st Street around 7 p.m. Sunday, Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke said. BMW Slams Into Utility Pole Outside Route 17 BMW Dealership
A driver was hospitalized after his BMW convertible slammed into a utility pole Saturday morning on Route 17 in front of a BMW dealership. "He's lucky to be alive," one responder said. The driver was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood following the crash outside of BMW of Ramsey on the southbound highway just after 7 a.m. Members of Ramsey Rescue extricated him. SUV Driver Suffers Critical Medical Episode At Route 17 Exit
A driver whose SUV crashed off Route 17 in Ridgewood Saturday afternoon apparently suffered a medical episode beforehand, responders said. Paramus PD: Fiery Route 4 Rollover Crash Caused By OD'ing Heroin User
A fiery Route 4 rollover crash that seriously injured a 91-year-old Maywood woman, among others, was caused by a 22-year-old Ridgewood driver who overdosed on heroin, authorities said. Firefighters saved an entire block of businesses and homes by eventually putting down a destructive downtown blaze Sunday night in Ridgewood. The five-alarm fire broke out in an apartment upstairs from the Bagelicious shop on North Broad Street shortly after 9 p.m. and quickly spread to the building housing the Mediterraneo restaurant and an office building. BMW Snaps Ridgewood Utility Pole
A driver escaped serious injury when her BMW sedan took out a utility pole and damaged the base of a light post Friday morning in Ridgewood. Ridgewood EMS took her to The Valley Hospital following the crash on West Ridgewood Avenue. The street was partially closed for several hours while utility crews tended to the pole. Ridgewood police and firefighters also responded.
