'Good Times' Star John Amos, Of New Jersey, Died In August, Family Announces John Amos, who played the father on the 1970s sitcom "Good Times" and grew up in East Orange and lived in Tewksbury, died in August at the age of 84, his family announced Tuesday, Oct. 1. Born in Newark, Amos attended East Orange High School. His parents divorced when he was two and Amos supported his family by working as a garbage collector and street cleaner, according to the Washington Post. Amos attempted to play professional football but was cut from the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs and went into acting. He later appeared on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" before being cast as Jam…

2.9 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles New Jersey New Jersey was rattled by a small earthquake on Friday morning, May 24, the USGS reports. It happened at 3:50 a.m. in Tewksbury, approximately 6 kilometers southwest of Gladstone, the USGS says. The Ramapo Fault System, which runs through NY, PA, NJ, MD, and VA, has clearly been a hot spot.  Countless quakes and aftershocks have developed along the system since the 4.8-magnitude earthquake on April 5.

The man was heading northbound on Route 517 when a tree fell on his 2008 Toyota Tacoma near mile marker 2.6 just after 3 p.m., Chief Timothy Barlow said.
