Prosecutor: Fleeing Suspect Breaks Into Franklin Lakes Home, Assaults Terrified Woman
A suspect fleeing police broke into a Franklin Lakes woman’s home, knocked her down and tried to hide in her chimney before he was captured, authorities said. Then he inexplicably smiled for his mugshot.
Justin M. Gonzalez, 24, hopped out of a parked car and took off on foot as Oakland police responded to a suspicious person’s report on Brook Hollow Road before dawn last Friday Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Gonzalez, of the Hudson Valley, NY town of Livingston Manor, got away, but not for long, the prosecutor said.

Firefighters Douse Mahwah Basement Blaze Near Rockland Border
Firefighters doused a basement blaze Wednesday that severely damaged a Mahwah home near the Upper Saddle River and Rockland borders.
No injuries were reported in the two-alarm blaze, which broke out shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Tam-O-Shanter Drive in the Scotch Hills section of the township barely a quarter-mile from Airmont, NY.
Mutual aid responders either at the scene or in coverage included firefighters from Ramsey, Midland Park, Allendale, Upper Saddle River, Oakland, Franklin Lakes, Waldwick and Wyckoff, Tallman, Suffern and Hillburn.
