Six firefighters were hospitalized while knocking down a Hoboken fire as temperatures neared 100 degrees this weekend. The blaze at 219 Washington St. broke out just before 3:15 p.m. Saturday, July 23. Jersey City firefighters assisted in ventilating the building. Four firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion while two suffered minor injuries, fire officials said. All were released by 1 a.m. Sunday, July 24. Flammable Material In Glass & Vapor House Started Deadly Hoboken Fire: Prosecutor
The cause of a fire that destroyed several businesses and left two people dead in Hoboken has been identified, authorities announced. The Dec. 20 Jackson Street fire began in the back of the building at Glass & Vapor House LLC and the Cause has been ruled an accident, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Investigators believe the presence of flammable material within that business likely contributed to the fire. Kayaker Rescued From Water Off Bayonne
Rescuers pulled a kayaker from the water in Bayonne late Saturday afternoon. The victim, who responders said was alert and suffering from hypothermia, was taken to Bayonne Medical Center after being rescued off Lefante Way while holding on to the kayak around 5 p.m. “At 4:35 p.m. [Saturday], the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a kayaker in distress on the east side waterways," Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said.
