Mystery In The Skies: FBI Probing Unexplained Drone Sightings In Three NJ Counties (Video)
The skies over New Jersey remain a puzzling hotspot for drone sightings as reports continue nearly two weeks after they first emerged, with residents growing increasingly uneasy (scroll for video).
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Warren County officials confirmed they are working with the FBI-Newark, New Jersey State Police, and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness to monitor, assess, and investigate the unusual activity.

Thousands of New Jersey residents were without power after a round of powerful afternoon storms swept through the region.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the region through 11 p.m., and that comes after a round of quarter-sized hail and gusty winds.

A town of Boonton police veteran who claimed he’d been harassed because of his role as a union negotiator was captured on surveillance video stealing his own internal affairs records along with computer drives containing department data, state authorities charged.
Capt. Stephen Jones, 42, of Toms River, was his department’s officer-in-charge when he removed at least five computer towers, “three of which contained police information, including files on internal affairs matters,” New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin said on Wednesday, March 8.

An 82-year-old Morris County man was charged with trafficking child porn after authorities said he shared videos with an undercover detective.
William Harbeson, 82, of Boonton, was released by a federal judge in Newark on $100,000 unsecured bond, with conditions, after being charged by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Investigations New Jersey Division.
Harberson “distributed videos of child sexual abuse via a publicly available online peer-to-peer file-sharing program,” U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger said on Wednesday, Nov. 23.

A serial burglar wanted on warrants out of no fewer than eight towns in four counties was captured by Maywood police and charged with a break-in at a local dry cleaner.
Nicolas G. Torres, 40, of Passaic, has been repeatedly arrested and then subsequently released under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law, mostly on commercial burglary charges, over the past several years, records show.

"QSR Magazine" named several local joints among the 40 best startups in America.

A Connecticut passenger pointed a handgun at a New Jersey State Police trooper during a pursuit on Route 287, authorities said Monday.
The pursuit, which began in Boonton, ended in a Mahwah park with the gunman and driver in custody and four weapons seized, NJSP Trooper Charles Marchan said.
A trooper tried to stop the Jeep Cherokee for a traffic violation on northbound Route 287 in Boonton Township shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, Marchan said.
The driver, identified as ex-con Theron Brown, 22, of Bridgeport, CT, hit the gas instead and sped off, he said.

Morris County Njsp Recruit, 27, Dies At Hospital After Training Accident
A New Jersey State Police recruit from Morris County died Tuesday after going unconscious during a training exercise last week.
Lucas C. Homeijer, of Boonton, was participating in an active countermeasures boxing exercise with another classmate at the State Police academy in Sea Girt Borough when he went unconscious on Wednesday, Nov. 25, NJSP Superintendent Colonel Patrick J. Callahan said in a release.
Homeijer, a member of the 161st NJSP Academy Class, was treated by staff at the scene before being taken to a local hospital, where he later died, Callahan said.

A Union County postal carrier stole credit and economic stimulus cards from the mail that he and three accomplices converted into cash and purchases, said federal authorities who arrested them Tuesday.
Kyle Williams, 35, was working for the U.S. Postal Service when he swiped the cards from July 2019 to August 2020 and shared them with his fellow Vauxhall defendants, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said.

NJ Mom Who Gave Daughter, 11, Pills Causing OD Death Faces 7 Years In Jail
A Boonton mom is facing a seven-year prison sentence after she admitted giving her 11-year-old daughter unprescribed pills that ultimately killed her.
Shay Mooney, 35, plead guilty in July to child endangerment and said that she neglected to keep her prescription medications from her daughter, Wade Richardson, Daily Record reports.
Richardson died last December from a combination of lorazepam, a sedative, as well as fentanyl, a narcotic, the report says citing the child’s autopsy.
