Landing Gear Fails Mid-Flight, Plane Skids Off Runway At NJ Airport
A plane carrying two people skidded off the runway at the Essex County Airport on Wednesday evening, Nov. 6 after its landing gear failed, Fairfield police said.
The flight began at Essex County Airport but was cut short about six miles out when the pilot noticed electrical issues, Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna said.
The pilot, a 58-year-old Weehawken man, immediately turned back toward the airport, but due to the electrical malfunction, the landing gear failed to deploy, causing the plane to skid off the runway upon landing around 5:35 p.m., according to Manna.

A Jersey City man trying to break into a Bayonne home and his getaway driver are in custody, police said.
Kenneth Dowdy, 43, was dressed in all black and trying to pry open an apartment door at 233 Avenue B in Bayonne when he was confronted by a building resident around 7:25 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, police said.
"A witness then saw the actor enter the passenger seat of a vehicle that was parked nearby, which was being driven by a ‘heavy-set” female," police said in a release.

Rev. Raul Gaviola, the pastor at St. Henry RC Church on W. 29th Street, detailed the incident in a post on Facebook, saying it happened after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Sept. 21, as he was talking to parishioners.
