A complaint about a vehicle with a loud exhaust led to a DWI arrest and the seizure of a loaded homemade handgun allegedly modified into an automatic weapon in Bergen County early Friday, July 17, police said.
Officers responded to Kamena and Ninth streets at approximately 4:03 a.m., after receiving a report of a vehicle idling with a loud exhaust, Deputy Chief John Pierotti said.

Dateline NBC will be airing a one-hour episode titled "Slow Burn" about the 2018 murder of the Caneiro family in Colts Neck on Friday, July 17 at 10 p.m.
Paul Caneiro, an Ocean Township resident, was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences after being convicted of murdering his brother, his sister-in-law and their two children in their Colts Neck home.
In levying the sentence, Judge Marc Lemieux called Caneiro, a "callous, heartless, brutal killer."

A 20-year-old Lakewood man was arrested and charged after he stole an ATV and fled from police, authorities announced Thursday, July 16.
At 9:50 p.m., on Monday, July 13, officers responded to Prospect Street after the owner of a previously stolen dirt bike and ATV located the vehicles, Lakewood police said.
While officers were investigating, they observed an ATV matching the description of one of the stolen vehicles being operated within the parking lot of a residential complex, police said.

Eight people were hospitalized after a suspected chlorine leak at an LA Fitness in North Brunswick on Thursday, July 16, police said.
Police, firefighters, EMS crews, and the Middlesex County Haz-Mat Team responded to the Brunswick Shopping Center, where early indications indicated a chlorine leak that has since been contained, Deputy North Brunswick Police Chief Brian A. Hoiberg said.
Eight people were injured and transported to area hospitals, according to Hoiberg.

Woman Intentionally Ran Over Man, Killing Him: Monmouth County Prosecutor
A 53-year-old Ocean Township woman was charged with murder in the first degree after she ran over a man in West Long Branch, authorities announced Wednesday, July 15.
On Tuesday, April 28 at 10 p.m., West Long Branch police responded to 123 Wall St. and found Adriano Catano, 46, unresponsive on his front lawn, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said. Catano was pronounced dead at the scene, Santiago said.
An investigation determined Catano was struck by Rena Cain's vehicle before she fled the scene, Santiago said. Cain is charged with murder in the first degree, Santiago said.

A 32-year-old Neptune City resident was arrested in Philadelphia for his role in a deadly shooting in Asbury Park last year, authorities announced Wednesday, July 15.
