Joanne Christensen and Pam Boilen worked with CrossFitAthletics to complete a 5k Trauma Run to raise money for the Westchester Medical Center. The obstacle course 5k was the first for Joanne and Pam. Joanne recently lost a bit of weight and she knew adding regular exercise would make a difference in her life. Pam Boilen helped motivate her. They loved showing their kids how their hard work paid off. They accomplished something that six months ago they never imagined doing. Glenn and Jackie Ettere, Owners of CrossFitAthletics, were their trainers. They are experienced fitness trainers who love to challenge beginners to skilled exercisers in Yorktown. Susan Gullotta placed second and was called out as a female leader at the race. Looks like the CrossFitAthletics team can be proud of their accomplishments.
Kathleen and Brendan Regan sent their kids to school all decked out last week. Brendan, a senior, Grace, a sophomore and Beth, a freshman epitomize Yorktown Highs spirit. Fun was had by the whole family and AC Moore saw its profits spike by selling colored tee shirts and art supplies to the high school students.
Lynn Ayala, Yorktown neighbor and owner of Dream Cakes Bakery and Stephanie Borrell, Manager had a great day last week hosting two Radio City Rockettes. Dream Cakes is one of five tri-state bakeries to compete in a cake design contest for the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular cake. You can check it out at the storefront in Parkside Corner. You can help out these Yorktown neighbors by voting on the Radio City Christmas Spectacular Facebook Page for the bakery's cake. Yorktown can prove its spirit goes beyond the schools!
Some more spirit was found at Wilkens Farm this weekend. Our friends from Long Island love to go apple picking with us and so we headed over on Saturday afternoon. One of the best parts for me -besides the cider donuts, the pies and the amazing views - is to see all the Yorktown youth who work there. Patrick Boyle, Brian Prestreau, Julie Rothberg, Michelle Pike, Cody Fiore, Chris Cunnington, Bianca Dente and John Hurley were just some of the teens who were on hand Saturday to greet visitors with smiles and some even wore apple gear to get some cheers. Randy Pratt and Tina Evler were there to manage the teens. There was a sense of camaraderie and many of the kids are repeat workers, for instance Patrick Boyle has been there for four seasons and Brian Prestreau and Julie Rothberg for three. These kids learn early on that they can be the apple of their parents' eyes by making some money working weekends at Wilkens. A win-win for all in Yorktown.
