YORKTOWN, N.Y. A public hearing for a proposed Costco Wholesale Club at 3200 Crompond Road was set for Monday night when the Yorktown Planning Board accepted the companys draft environmental impact statement.
The 2,200-page document, which now becomes available for public review, will be discussed at the boards next meeting, Oct. 15, and public comments will be accepted.
Basically what were doing tonight is just saying they answered the questions, not that were happy with the answers, said board Chairman Richard Fon. We might not like what they put in the document.
Several residents at the meeting were skeptical about being able to properly read and review the report before the public meeting. Board members assured residents all comments written or verbal will be heard, and the hearing likely will be extended beyond the Oct. 15 meeting.
It doesn't have to end until we think we've exhausted every concern, said board member John Savoca. Written comments also will be accepted up until 10 days after the closing of the public hearing.
Fon said he understands the affect the proposed 151,000-square-foot warehouse would have on the town and said it is not a project the board is looking to fast-track.
In no way is this getting blasted through, he said. Were going to look at this. Were going to make sure its right, and were going to go through the comments. Were going to listen to everybody. Were going to do the right thing. Everybody here wants the best for the town. You guys, us; were all in this together.
The report will be made available on the towns website, or residents can request an individual copy from the planning department.
