15-Year-Old Boy Stabbed At Elementary School Playground In Mount Vernon
A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized after being stabbed in the playground of an elementary school in Westchester. The incident happened on Tuesday, March 26 just before 4 p.m., when a teenage boy was stabbed in the playground of Rebecca Turner Elementary School in Mount Vernon at 625 South 4th Ave., according to city officials. The boy was then taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, where he is now in stable condition. More information about the incident has not been released. Second Westchester Public School District Closes Due To Coronavirus Concerns
A second public school district in Westchester will be closed on Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6 due to concerns over the novel coronavirus. The two are the Mount Vernon City School District and Hastings Public Schools. A total of 22 schools in the Hudson Valley, including 17 in Westchester, were among 155 high achieving and high progress schools state-wide identified as Reward Schools by the State Education Department in an announcement made Thursday. Three Mount Vernon Schools Upgraded From Focus Schools To Good Standing
Good news keeps pouring in for the Mount Vernon School District. After years of student struggles, Columbus, Hamilton and Rebecca Turner elementary schools have been awarded designation upgrades to “schools in good standing” after being designated as “focus schools’ by the New York State Education Department.
