Yonkers PAL Girls Softball Sweeps To League Title

YONKERS, N.Y. -- The Yonkers Police Athletic League Girls 14-Under Softball team won the Westchester/Putnam Baseball Association Championship Summer League with a perfect 12-0 season.

The 14-Under squad, under the coaching of Robert Riordan and his assistant Alex Montes, topped Pelham in the title game. The league included teams from New Rochelle, Cortlandt, Yorktown, Greenwich (Conn.), Larchmont, Mamaroneck and the Bronx.

The Yonkers girls, who move up to the 16-Under competition this fall, won their first 16-Under tournament at the All-Shore Softball Tournament in New Jersey,  racing through a 5-0 record in pool play and defeating Monroe Surf 8-0 in the championship game.

The current 16-Under girls team has had a history of winning championships. Beginning as a group in 10-Under competition, the team has won titles at 10-Under, 12-Under and 14-Under.

Yonkers PAL also went unbeaten in 11 games this past spring during the Westchester Senior Softball League, topping Yorktown in the championship game.

The Yonkers PAL girls softball team members are Isabella Riordan, Sarah Palladino, Racheal DelGiacco, Kim Zapata, Cassidy Montes, Amanda Talavera, Kaitlyn Antonelli, Stefpanie Romero, Jenna Pelinkovic, Alyssa Prauda, Mary McAllen, Nicole Frascati, Michelle Marcello, Ashley Puig, Caroline Brycland, Jillian Rivera, Gabriella Branciforti.
