By meeting the state-mandated deadline of Jan. 17, the district averted the potential loss of nearly $17 million in state aid and grants.
While the Board of Education already reached agreements on APPR plans with both the Yonkers Federation of Teachers and the Yonkers Council of Administrators on Jan. 4, it still needed the state's approval before the deadline.
The Yonkers school district worked very hard to ensure the plan for teacher evaluations went through because of how dire the consequences were, said Superintendent of Schools Bernard Pierorazio.
"My staff, led by Executive Director Vincent McPartlan, has been working diligently with both the Yonkers Council of Administrators and Yonkers Federation of Teachers since last Monday to address the State’s recommendations and modify the District’s APPR plan, accordingly,” Pierorazio said in a statement. “We are grateful to the State’s APPR team, who worked with us throughout the weekend in support of our unwavering efforts to meet the deadline, and the administrators and teachers’ unions whose collaboration was essential to securing approval.”
