Each day this week, The Yonkers Daily Voice will take a look at the valedictorians and salutatorians of each high school in the Yonkers Public School District.

Riverside High School: Valedictorian
Maria Fernanda Santana Hernandez is the valedictorian of Riverside High School, with a weighted grade point average of 94.6.
She has taken one Advanced Placement course, one College Link course, and four Century Honors courses. Hernandez is a National Honors Award recipient and earned the Dominican Honors Medal, Wells College National Leadership Award, Dominican Achievement Award, Dominican Honor Student Award, and the City of Yonkers Student Recognition.
She has participated in the Robotics Club, Drama Club, ACE Mentor Program and multicultural dance. During her free time, Maria has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Groundwork Hudson Valley and local blood drives and is a History tutor at Roosevelt High School.
Hernandez has been accepted, and will attend, the Rochester Institute of Technology where she will major in Engineering.
Salutatorian
Dazmalyn Sanchez is the salutatorian of Riverside High School, with a weighted grade point average of 93.5.
She has taken two Advanced Placement courses, two College Link courses, and seven Century Honors courses. She is the recipient of the Harvard Book Award, SUNY Multicultural High School Achievers Award, Rensselaer Medal Award, Basic Shapes Award, Watch Award, Certificate of Congratulations and Excellence, and numerous certificates of recognition, achievement and merit.
Sanchez participated in the Sarah Lawrence Summer Science Program and the Manhattan College Engineering Program. She has volunteered as a blood drive organizer and with Groundwork Hudson Valley and Gateway. In her spare time, Sanchez enjoys Tae-Kwon-Do.
She has been accepted to the State University of New York at Alfred State and Fredonia and the Art Institute of Atlanta, where she plans to attend and major in Art.
