On Tuesday, Westchester County District Attorney announced that Frank Kwaw, 25, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony counts of attempted murder, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to Scarpino, shortly before 8 p.m. on May 27 last year, Kwaw was on the sidewalk in front of an apartment complex on Highland Avenue with his girlfriend when a fight broke out between she and Kwaw’s victim.
While the two women fought, Kwaw drew a handgun and fired six shots at a friend of the victim, with one round striking her in her left hand, causing a fracture, the DA said. His victim still suffers loss of function in the injured hand.
Yonkers police launched an extensive investigation that resulted in Kwaw’s arrest. Scarpino noted that surveillance video was recovered and placed into evidence at trial that showed that at the time Kwaw fired the shots, the street and nearby playground were full of adults and young children who could have been injured or killed.
Kwaw has been remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
