The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Dawne R. Mccray, , Yonkers Police said. She sustained numerous stab wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Andre E. Coverdale, was taken into custody Saturday at the scene and subsequently booked for murder in the second degree at the Yonkers City Jail.
Initial investigation has revealed that this homicide is the result of a domestic incident, police said.
The suspect stabbed his mother numerous times, resulting in her death, according to police.
The suspect reports to be homeless, police said.
He is now in custody at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.
