YONKERS, N.Y. -- Authorities have identified the man who drowned while saving a boy in the Hudson River on Sunday was identified by friends in Yonkers, according to News 12 Westchester.
Boyce "Scoop" Coleman, 40, was attending a neighborhood cookout at the JFK Marina when he noticed a 6-year-old boy floating in the river just before 7 p.m.
People then reported to marina units that Coleman had gone missing and was still in the water. An extensive search continued involving members of the Yonkers Police Department Emergency Service Unit, Yonkers Police Department Marine Unit, and various units from the New York City Police Department.
Authorities later found Coleman's body at approximately 8 p.m. He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center and was found dead.
