YONKERS, N.Y. A Yonkers man is behind bars after leading cops on a dangerous chase through city streets, police say.
Arthur Molina, 32, of 8 Moquette Road South, was arrested after cops say he fled arrest in a high-speed chase that injured at least four officers and narrowly missed running down several pedestrians.
Members of the Yonkers Police Department 4th Precincts Anti-Crime Unit reportedly observed Molina in a drug deal on Locust Hill Avenue on Friday at about 5:40 p.m. Police say they attempted to pull Molina over when he fled in his car down Ashburton Avenue.
In the process, Molina drove his 1999 Subaru into oncoming traffic and onto sidewalks, narrowly missing bystanders, police said. Near Orchard Place, Molinas car crossed a double-yellow line and collided with a marked radio car, injuring the two officers inside the vehicle, police reported.
Molina continued to flee before striking another marked police radio car near Nepperhan Avenue, injuring two more officers inside, according to reports.
When his car finally gave out on Moquette Road because of the damage, police say Molina, bleeding from the head, jumped out and began to run.
Police say he tossed a clear plastic baby bottle on the ground in the process, which cops said they later found to contain PCP. As police cornered Molina, he tried to punch an officer before he was taken to the ground and handcuffed, according to police.
Even as he was being handcuffed, Molina reportedly tried to spit blood on the officers, who had to hold him on the ground. Cops said eight police officers were injured and/or exposed to Molinas blood during the incident.
Police later found two bags of dried mint leaves and a clear ziplock-type bag containing 100 purple-tinted ziplock bags in his car, according to reports. Cops said these items are commonly used in the preparation, packaging, and sale of PCP.
Molina was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a head injury and released. He was later taken to city jail where he was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree assault, both felonies; as well as resisting arrest, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, all misdemeanors; and a host of traffic violations.
He was arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court on Saturday July 7.
