Shamesha Holloway, 25, Shakeia Davis, 28, Dominique Hodges, 25 and Khrystina Harris, 35, each were charged with scheme to defraud, a class E felony. They each face a maximum of four years in prison.

In addition to the four women charged, a summons to appear was issued for Tiffany James, 21.

Between December 2011 and August 2012, the defendants allegedly engaged in a scheme that stole more than $6,000 in rent payment money orders that tenants mailed to the Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority for payment of their subsidized part of the Section 8 housing rent, according to the release.

The alleged scheme targeted Yonkers residents, typically elderly victims, who paid their monthly rent by mailing money orders through the .U.S Postal Service.

The mailed money orders were stolen in transit and later cashed by various participants in the scheme, the release said.

The alleged scheme came to light when tenants received second notices for payment and were able to show they already had sent the money orders, the release said.

They five were released of their own recognizance and are expected back in court Dec. 4.
