Vera McCarthy, 80, Retired From Yonkers Public Library

YONKERS, N.Y. – Vera McCarthy, formerly of Yonkers, died Jan. 12. She was 80.

McCarthy was born on Jan. 12, 1930, to Peter and Christine Wichick Danisher. She graduated from Yonkers High School in 1950 and was retired from the Yonkers Public Library.

She enjoyed Trivial Pursuit  and was a history and Hollywood buff. She was also an avid viewer of the Food Network. She was most recently of Fairfield, Conn.

Her husband, Martin McCarthy, died in 2001.

McCarthy is survived by her cousin and goddaughter, Deborah (Patrick) Barrows; her friend, Barbara Reed; and many cousins in Yonkers.

Visitation is from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday, at Duchynski-Cherko Funeral Home in Yonkers. A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Yonkers.

Memorial donations may be made to any local animal shelter, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
