Kesha Diamond Of Yonkers Receives Citizen Teacher Recognition

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Kesha Diamond, of Yonkers, has received recognition as a Citizen Schools Citizen Teacher in honor of her civic leadership.

Each year, the president of the United States recognizes volunteers throughout the country with the President's Volunteer Service Award. 

Citizen Teachers are known to play a critical role in introducing students to engaging opportunities and careers through 10-week apprenticeship programs.

Over 2,300 Citizen Teachers taught more than 1,000 apprenticeships, impacting over 5,300 students across the network.

Diamond and several other volunteer Citizen Teachers received recognition from President Barack Obama at the silver award level.

In addition, Diamond along with the other winning volunteers have celebrated throughout the summer at "WOW!" events and at Citizen Teacher social events.

Citizen Schools is a national nonprofit organization that partners with middle schools to expand the learning day for children in low-income communities.
