The Wall Street Journal looked into Astorino's proposal, which would give a 40-year lease to a private operator to run the airport. Bids are due July 14 and the winning bid must be approved by a supermajority of the Board of Legislators.
Astorino has said privatizing the airport would provide a revenue stream for the county and improve airport operations.
Citizens for a Responsible County Airport has opposed the plan, saying it would increase air traffic and could lead to environmental concerns like polluting the Kensico Reservoir.
