A 17-year-old White Plains girl was one of two girls recovered by the FBI New York Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force during the annual national “Operation Cross Country XI," held Thursday, Oct. 12 to Saturday, Oct. 14.

The operation, which works hand-in-hand with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, focuses on recovering underage victims of human sex trafficking throughout the nation and aboard, the FBI said.

The FBI Westchester County, Hudson Valley, and Long Island Safe Streets Task Forces, along with multiple local and state law enforcement partners, worked around the clock for four days in an effort to free sex-trafficking victims, the New York FBI Office said.

Two girls were recovered, a 15-year- old on Long Island, and the 17-year-old in White Plains, who were both returned to their guardians,

The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects involved with facilitating sex trafficking.  The FBI and NYPD also arrested two men for attempting to exchange money and gifts for sex with a minor, and 14 men who sought to exchange money for sex with an adult.

“As a father, it is hard to comprehend why anyone looks at a child and sees a method to make money, let alone selling them from sex," said FBI New York Assistant Director in Charge William F. Sweeney. "These pimps arrested in this operation, and the cases we investigate each and every day, force these girls into an ugly and demeaning life they don’t understand and can’t escape."

During the operation, investigators encountered 28 women, who were offered assistance. The FBI NY Victims Specialists work with many communities, state and federal agencies to get the victims recovered and encountered access to any assistance they may need by providing safe shelter, food, clothing and access to physical and mental health care, or other needed services, the FBI said.
