WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Campaign signs have begun cropping up in White Plains yards, as residents prepare to vote in the Nov. 8 general election, which will select four Common Council representatives and fill White Plains' and Scarsdale's county legislative seat.
Republicans have selected Richard Cirulli, 59, a business consultant and teacher, Michael Donnelly, 30, a real estate developer, and Terence Guerriere, 52, the president of the Gedney Association and director of a title insurance agency, to run against a slew of mostly incumbent Democrats.
Current council president Benjamin Boykin II, 61, who has been on the Common Council for three terms, and council member Milagros Lecuona, 57, an architect and urban planner, are up for reelection this fall. Dennis Krolian, 59, a trail lawyer who has been involved with the citys Democratic Party, will also compete for a four-year-term Common Council seat.
Residents will also vote to permanently fill the council seat left vacant by Mayor Thomas Roach, when he became mayor in a special election after Adam Bradley resigned from the post.
John Martin, 51, a Democrat, was unanimously appointed to the council seat left vacant after former Mayor Adam Bradley resigned and Mayor Thomas Roach was elected to fill the mayorship. Martin, who was appointed in April, will now be competing to serve the remainder of the term. He is being challenged by James Arndt, 44, a manager at Hugo Boss who ran unsuccessfully in 2009. Arndt is endorsed by the Republican Party.
County Legislator William Ryan, a Democrat serving his seventh term, will compete against Iris Pagan, 56, a former educator and previously the president of the Westchester Womens Republican Club, to represent Westchesters fifth legislative district.
