The third Thursday in December is the most common for holiday office parties and 41 percent of people surveyed by the website regiftable.com say they target coworkers for regifts.

Regifting is gaining acceptance, however, with 60 percent of people surveyed saying they’re fine with it. A quarter pointed out it’s a good way to save money and 14 percent said it’s a good way to keep things out of landfills.

Here are some tips to follow if you’re planning to regift:

  • Skip the gift exchange and turn it into a regift exchange, this way no one feels duped
  • Inspect the item to ensure it’s clean, new and in perfect condition — no one wants a used gift
  • Be sure the recipient will likely enjoy the item — don’t give a gift just to give one
  • Make sure the original gift-giver isn’t there
