Aug. 22 was chosen as the celebratory date, since peaches are harvested between June and August.

Although China is one of the largest producers of peaches in the world, most people are more familiar with Georgia -- the Peach State -- which is one of the primary locations for peaches to be grown and eaten in the U.S.
