A bomb squad was called after a public works employee discovered a World War II-era mortar in his relative's belongings in Westchester, authorities said. The incident began on Monday, April 29, at around 11 a.m., when a Yonkers Department of Public Works employee contacted the city's police department and told them he had a mortar in his car, parked at the DPW Service Center at 1130 Nepperhan Ave. According to Yonkers Police Lieutenant Jamie Dumser, the employee had discovered the mortar while cleaning out a relative's belongings.
