Horace Greeley High School National Merit Semifinalist Samuel J. 'Sabrina' Kaplan Dies At 17 Samuel J. "Sabrina" Kaplan of Chappaqua, an accomplished student at Horace Greeley High School, died of metabolic causes on Friday, Sept. 17 in Syosset at the age of 17.  Later in life, Sam's chosen name was Sabrina. The name Sabrina and appropriate pronouns will be used out of respect for her journey and her wishes. Sam is survived by mother, Nicole Turano of Chappaqua; grandparents Margot and Vincent Turano of Carmel; father David Kaplan, stepmother, Alice and younger half-siblings, Natalie, Arthur and Benjamin of Syosset. Tarrytown 22-Year-Old Rescued After Falling From Cliff While Hiking A 22-year-old Westchester man was rescued after falling more than 20 feet off a cliff while hiking at Nyack Beach State Park. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the Tarrytown man went off a trail, fell and was knocked unconscious, said Randy Simon, spokesman for the state Parks Services. Hiker, 25, Dies After Fall From Mountain In Hudson Valley A 25-year-old hiker from the Hudson Valley fell 100 feet to his death while free climbing with two friends on Thursday, officials said. Kenneth Steier of Poughkeepsie had been hiking Thursday along the Washburn Trail at Hudson Highland State Park, about a mile south of Breakneck Ridge, said Randy Simons, a spokesman for the state Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
