Tarrytown's Rob Manfred Named New Major League Baseball Commissioner

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Newly elected Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred of Tarrytown will be the latest Westchester resident to head a major pro sports league.

The 55-year-old Manfred was selected to replace the retiring Bud Selig on Thursday in a vote on the final day of the quarterly Owners Meeting, according to

Manfred, currently MLB's chief operating officer, will be the 10th commissioner in baseball history.

Manfred has been executive vice president for labor relations for 15 years before being named COO in September 2013.

Before joining MLB, Manfred was a labor attorney. He received a Bachelor of Science from Cornell and his law degree from Harvard Law School.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is a Rye native. Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner, is a longtime Bronxville resident.
