SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. -- Sleepy Hollow resident Samantha Coffey, co-captain of The Masters School girls' varsity soccer team, has been selected by the U.S. Soccer Federation as one of the top 26 players in the country to try out for the USA U-18 Women’s National Team this spring.

Coffey, a junior at the school in Dobbs Ferry, will work with Women’s National Team coaches and scouts during a training camp for the Under 18 (U-18) Women’s National Team at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center from April 16 to 23 in Carson, Calif.

U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs coaches the U-18 Women’s National team. She is the only soccer player from Westchester County and one of only three players from the Tri-State Area to be selected for this training camp. Coffey was voted the number one player in the All-FAA player rankings for the fall 2015 season. She has scored 53 goals in the past two seasons under coach Hernando Santamaria at Masters.

“Sam has aspired to play at the highest level possible,” Santamaria says. “This is a tremendous opportunity for Sam and a goal for any soccer player. Being called up to the top program in the United States is a true testimony of her hard work and dedication to the sport.”

All the players in the camp are age-eligible for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup but the goal for this age group is to ultimately qualify for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Coffey has given a verbal commitment to play for the women’s soccer team at Boston College, and expects to sign a letter of intent in February of her senior year.
