Sleepy Hollow Opens Football Season at Riverside

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. ? Quarterback Devin Lopez takes the reigns of a potentially high-scoring offense when the Sleepy Hollow Horsemen ride into their season opener Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside (Yonkers) High School.

Lopez joins a group of two-way starters coach Steve Borys believes can be successful on offense and difficult to manage on defense.

"We have a good core of players this year," said Borys, who has just one losing season over his 10 years as coach. "We have good speed on offense and we can be good on both lines if the guys work hard and stay with it. I think we can be a good team."

The Horsemen lost power running back and linebacker LJ Garrant and quarterback Nick Vallo from a 5-4 team that struggled with injuries last year. This year's success depends on linemen Frank Curaja, Anthony Mulfari and Chris Hutter and two-way players like Dionel Infante, Edwin Jimenez and Julio Sosa, who provide speed on offense and stability on defense.

The host Ravens, led by a good defense, hope to get a couple of early wins after going 1-6 in 2011. Riverside returns a good group of players who are determined to win more than one game this fall.
