Irvington Field Hockey Scores Big In Win

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Irvington High School varsity field hockey proved through its first two games that its offense is a strength. Irvington scored nine goals in a win and a tie, and, Tuesday, the offense continued the trend with a 4-1 win over host Edgemont in a Section 1 game under the lights.

Alyssa DiCampli scored twice, including the goal that broke a 1-1 tie late in the first half. Ryan McMahon added a goal and Lauren Chafizedah closed out the Irvington scoring.

“During practice we do a lot of work with the ball and moving it around in the circle,” DiCampli said.

This attention to detail in practice resulted in Irvington being active in the Edgemont defensive circle and scoring four goals.

It was Edgemont, though, that took the lead on a Victoria Coleman goal, assisted by Katie Entner. That goal casued Irvington coach Jen Regan to call a timeout.

“We woke up after that and knew that we had to get it going,” DiCampli said. “Coach wanted us to go out and give it 150 percent. She got us pumped up, a lot, and we came out strong.”

Once Irvington grabbed the lead, it controlled the action. McMahon extended the lead to two goals 8:48 into the second half, converting a penalty corner.

Irvington is off to another fast start after going undefeated through the first half of 2011 and advancing to the quarterfinal round of the Section 1 Class B Championships.

“We came out with a win today, gave it our all and we are all happy,” DiCampli said.
