TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Saturday's clear, sunny weather was perfect for a ball game.
Several hundred Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow children agreed, taking part in a kickoff parade for the TNT Baseball program and then gathering in Tarrytown's Losee Park to play ball, eat hot dogs and enjoy the afternoon.
It's a community event, TNT league official John Sutherland said. People have fun.
The parade began at Neperan Park in Tarrytown, with teams lining up to take photos in their uniforms while the Tappan Zee Bridgemen serenaded the park with music.
The Tarrytown Fire Department and several police cars lead the parade down Main Street, across the H Bridge and to the ballfield that sits next to the Hudson River. Children, coaches and parents marched with a TNT Baseball banner in the parade.
Sutherland said this year's program has 340 players in major, minor and T-ball leagues. The association also has a traveling summer team, but Sutherland said it was not able to make it to the parade.
Saturday's parade kicked off the 26th year for the TNT Baseball Softball Association, which is nonprofit and staffed by volunteers with help from the Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown Recreation departments.
The organization's mission is to implant firmly in the children and the community the ideals of teamwork, fair play, good sportsmanship, friendly competition, honesty, loyalty, courage and the respect for authority.
