Sleepy Hollow High Carnival Brings Thrills, Food

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Sleepy Hollow High School student Jordan Debeer had a job to do: entice passers-by to throw a ball at one of his fellow students waiting in a dunk tank.

“A couple of kids have pressed the button because they missed,” the 12th-grader said, noting about seven people had successfully hit the target.

Debeer and many others students spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday hosting the school's annual carnival fundraiser, which is put on by the student government to raise money for the high school.

Carnival-goers enjoyed traditional amusement park rides such as the spinning teacups, as well as games and food in the upper parking lot near the school's football field. Students helped man booths throughout out the makeshift fairgrounds while music blared.

Student government advisor Denise Wagner supervised the fair and brought her family along.

“They seem to really like it,” she said.

Debeer said the carnival had been busy all weekend.

“There's been a lot of people have been coming in,” he said. “It's been kind of slow today since it's Sunday, but Friday was full and Saturday was full.”
