Kimberly Badger, a sophomore, spoke about “Characteristics of Pileated Woodpecker Foraging Sites,” and Sade Tukuru, also a sophomore, presented “Water Quality Characteristics of Vernay Lake.”

There were eleven students from ten local high schools in Teatown’s four-week TESA program held in July. The students were mentored by Mike Rubbo, Teatown’s director of conservation science and Hillary Seiner, Teatown’s assistant conservation scientist.

During the program, students were introduced to the ecology of local plants, animals and habitats as well as  the scientific method. Students then developed a research project based on observations conducted at Teatown’s preserve.

“We are so proud of the students in the TESA program this summer and the challenging topics they chose for their research projects. We believe the seniors at Kendal on Hudson also appreciated their hard work and professionalism," Teatown’s Executive Director, Kevin Carter said in a release.

"We were delighted to have the opportunity to showcase these bright students at Kendal. Their research projects were amazingly professional and worthy of our attention and recognition," Jim Wood, a Teatown Lake Reservation advocate and Kendal on Hudson resident, said.
