“The Public Works personnel are aware that they will be called in, and we will be monitoring the entire situation to see whether a snow emergency will need to be declared,” Village Administrator Lawrence Schopfer said.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the weekend. Snow is expected to begin Friday morning after 3 a.m., with one to two inches falling before noon. The snow should turn into rain on Friday afternoon and return to snow after 9 p.m.

Officials said six to 10 inches of snow could accumulate overnight, with snow continuing on Saturday morning before 9 a.m.

Before snowstorms, crews check plowing equipment  load trucks with salt and pre-treat roads as necessary, officials said. Schopfer said supplies of salt and gasoline are also checked.

Schopfer and Irvington Police Chief Michael Cerone are also participating in a Con Edison conference call to discuss how high winds and heavy snow could affect power.

Although there has been more snowfall than last year already, Schopfer says the village's snow removal budget hasn't been under a lot of pressure so far this season.
